Booking a Mermaid in Dubai: What You Actually Need to Know

Most enquiries we receive about mermaid performers start with the same three questions: what does the performance actually look like, will it work at my venue, and what will it cost. Here are the straight answers, based on the mermaid bookings we have handled across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE since 2009.

What a Mermaid Performance Involves

A mermaid booking is not one fixed act. It usually combines two or three of the following formats, chosen to fit your venue and guest list:

  • Poolside meet and greet. The mermaid sits at the pool edge or on a decorated rock or lounger, chats with guests, poses for photos and hands out shells or small gifts to children. This is the core of most kids party bookings and needs no swimming at all.
  • In-water performance. The mermaid swims choreographed routines in the pool, surfaces to interact with guests, and can lead gentle splash games with children from the shallow end. Guests watching from sun loungers or the pool deck get the full effect.
  • Underwater performance. For venues with a viewing window, a deep pool or an aquarium tank, the mermaid performs extended breath-hold routines below the surface. This is the most dramatic option and the usual choice for brand launches and hotel activations.
  • Land walkaround. The mermaid is carried or wheeled to a photo point on a throne, clamshell or trolley, tail on, for indoor events, mall activations and venues with no usable water. A land set still delivers the photo moment without any pool logistics.

Venue Requirements: Pool, Villa or Yacht

Before we confirm a mermaid, we check a few practical points about your venue. Water depth matters: a swimming performance needs roughly 1.2 metres or more so the tail can move properly, while a poolside meet and greet works with any depth, or none. Water temperature matters too. Performers work comfortably in heated hotel pools year round, but unheated villa pools in December and January can be too cold for long swim sets, so we shorten in-water time and extend the poolside portion. In summer the opposite applies: we schedule around midday heat for outdoor bookings.

Every in-water performance requires a responsible adult or lifeguard on watch, because a performer in a full tail has restricted leg movement and cannot climb out unassisted. Hotel pools normally have lifeguards on duty already. For private villas we ask the host to confirm supervision, or we can arrange it as part of the booking.

We do not publish fixed rates because every booking is shaped by four factors:

  • Duration. Mermaid sets run in blocks with rest breaks, since swimming in a weighted tail is physically demanding. A single 45-minute appearance costs less than a two-set afternoon.
  • Number of performers. One mermaid suits most parties. Two or three create a stronger visual for hotel activations and launches, and let you keep a performer poolside while another swims.
  • Performance type. Underwater breath-hold work commands more than a poolside meet and greet, because it requires a specialist performer and stricter safety cover.
  • Custom requests. A specific tail colour to match brand or party colours, themed props, or pairing the mermaid with a pirate host or face painter all adjust the quote.

How Far Ahead Should You Book?

From October to April, Dubai's outdoor event season, the strongest performers are booked two to four weeks out, and popular weekend dates can go earlier. December and school holiday weekends are the tightest. In summer, one week's notice is usually enough, and we can sometimes cover last-minute requests within 48 hours if a performer is free. If your date is fixed, enquire early: confirming costs nothing extra and holds your slot.

Events Mermaids Work Best At

The bulk of our mermaid bookings fall into four categories: children's birthday pool parties, hotel pool activations and family brunches, brand launches with an aquatic or summer theme, and yacht parties. Safety First

For events with children we brief the performer and the host on pool rules in advance, keep child interaction in the shallow end or at the pool edge, and require a supervising adult present whenever children are near the water.
