How much does it cost to hire a comedian in Dubai?

Fees typically range from AED 8,000 for a local circuit comedian doing a short corporate set to AED 100,000 or more for an international touring name with television or streaming credits. The fee depends on set length, the act's profile, and whether flights and hotel are included. Always confirm the exact figure once you have a date, venue and guest count, since these ranges vary by booking.

Do you need a permit for a comedy show in Dubai?

Ticketed, publicly advertised comedy shows generally need an event permit through Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism or through the venue's own licence. Private and corporate events held inside a licensed venue, where tickets are not sold publicly, usually do not need a separate permit, but this varies by venue and should be confirmed directly with the venue before the booking is finalised.

Can comedians make jokes about religion or politics in Dubai?

No. Material covering religion, the UAE government, the ruling family and local politics is off limits for any public or private performance in the UAE. Professional comedians who have worked in the region already edit their sets accordingly. Clients booking an act for the first time should request a content briefing before the event rather than assuming the standard set is suitable.

How far in advance should I book a comedian for a corporate event?

Four to eight weeks is a comfortable window for most bookings, and it allows time for a content review and technical confirmation with the venue. International acts need the longer end of that window, often more, because of visa processing and flight scheduling. Dubai-based circuit comedians can sometimes be confirmed within one to two weeks if the date is open.

Can comedians perform in Arabic in Dubai?

Yes, a number of acts on the Dubai circuit perform bilingual sets or work entirely in Arabic, which suits events with a predominantly Gulf or Levantine guest list. Ask the agency specifically for Arabic-speaking or bilingual comedians when you send your brief, since not every act offers this and it affects which comedians get shortlisted for your date.

What is the difference between hiring a comedian and a comedy MC?

A stand-up comedian delivers a dedicated set, usually 15 to 45 minutes, and then steps off. A comedy MC hosts the entire event, introducing speakers, managing transitions and keeping energy up between segments, with comedy woven throughout rather than delivered as one block. Corporate events with award presentations or multiple segments usually need an MC rather than a pure stand-up act.

Is alcohol allowed at comedy events in Dubai?

Alcohol service follows the venue's own licence, not the comedy booking itself. Licensed hotels and clubs can serve alcohol at private and corporate events under their existing licence. If alcohol is served, tell the agency in advance, since it can affect which material the comedian includes and whether certain crowd-work approaches are suitable for the room.

How do I book a comedian for Abu Dhabi events?

The process mirrors Dubai, but events fall under the Department of Culture and Tourism rather than Dubai's authority, and government or semi-government bookings, which are more common in Abu Dhabi, often carry a stricter default content standard. Build in extra time for the content sign-off and confirm permit requirements with the specific venue before finalising the booking.
